At the 2011 Utah 2A state tournament at Utah Valley University, I won the 160-pound title for Kanab High School. Two of the wrestlers I had to get through had already beaten me earlier that season.

▹Round 1: beat Ty Clegg, South Summit.
▹Quarterfinal: tied 3-3 after three periods with Boden Truman of Enterprise. In overtime I hit a double-leg, lifted him, and put him on his back for five points.
▹Semifinal: won 6-5 over No. 1 seed Garret Starley of Millard.
▹Final: took No. 2 seed Connor Crandall of South Summit down twice and won 4-1.

These days I'm on the other side of the mat, coaching youth wrestling.
